OUR MISSION —Many organizations found in Alaska work tirelessly toward conservation of nature and species alike, both on land and in the water. Many habitats found along the mountainous terrain as well as along inlets, rivers, and coasts have been home to naturally occurring marine and terrestrial species for centuries. Climate change is most obvious in coastal communities which experience a decrease in stable sea ice and an increasingly dangerous terrain upon which they hunt. This unpredictable environment makes the traditional subsistence hunt more strenuous and stressful, an already difficult lifestyle to maintain.
The Anchorage hub is participating in the People’s Climate March to create a platform of sharing our perseverance with our sister hubs in other parts of the country. If each hub represents a different aspect of climate change, Anchorage represents the people of the North who are most easily affected by a changing climate.”
