Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is mostly used to extract natural gas. Methane, which is the primary ingredient in natural gas, is 105 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide over a ten year span. A lot of methane leaks during natural gas fracking – so in many cases, natural gas is actually worse for the climate than coal. In some parts of the country, fracking is also being used to extract carbon-intensive oil.

We need real leadership from climate leaders. Only when we look at moving towards a truly just and sustainable future will the world we wish to live in become possible. True climate leaders will not side with the frackers – they will stop the dangerous practice!
